In the wake of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and health departments in the tri-state area loosening the guidance on facial coverings for vaccinated people, Stew Leonard’s announced new guidelines for both customers and employees.

As of Wednesday, May 19, customers can begin shopping at Stew Leonard’s locations in New York and Connecticut without a mask, though employees will continue to wear facial coverings through at least Memorial Day on the weekend of Friday, May 28.

Last week, the CDC announced new guidance on mask-wearing and social distancing, permitting fully vaccinated people to not social distance themselves or wear masks while indoors.

The CDC still recommends facial coverings on public transportation, in nursing homes, homeless shelters, congregate facilities, and schools until more vaccinations are administered to younger Americans.

CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said that fully vaccinated people can participate in indoor or outdoor activities without a mask or social distancing, saying that “if you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing.”
